About map layers
Similar to image-editing programs, Magic Maps allows documents to be composed of multiple layers, which appear to be stacked on top of one another. Layers may be rearranged, renamed, hidden, duplicated, deleted, and styled to give you great flexibility in creating a map.
There are several kinds of map layers:
- Data layers may have data associated with each map feature, for example, population
- Selection layers contain a specified subset of map features
- Smart Layers contain a dynamic subset of map features based on custom rules
- Radius layers consist of geographic circles drawn around features in another layer
- Image layers display a raster image, for example, to represent physical geography
In addition, most map templates include a special base layer that draws the coordinate grid.
