Creating an image layer

Image layers can display a raster image on a map (for example, to represent physical geography). Image layers are often used as a backdrop for vector layers, but can also be interesting in their own right.

The Template Chooser includes an image layer called "World (Physical)", available in the "World" category. To copy this layer to other map documents:

  1. Open the World (Physical) template from the Template Chooser
  2. Drag its row from the Map Layers window to the map view of the desired document.

It is also possible to create a custom image layer by importing a GeoTIFF file from your hard drive. To import a GeoTIFF file as an image layer:

Other types of images (for example, PNG or JPEG files) cannot be imported by Magic Maps.
