Renaming a variable

Text and data variables can be renamed. Variable names should be short identifying strings, such as "population". Use the variable title field for more nuanced descriptions.

To rename a variable:

  1. Open the data pane by clicking "Show Data" in the toolbar
  2. In the variable table, double-click the "Layer variable" column of the variable whose name you wish to edit
  3. Type a new name and press Enter

Computed variables cannot be renamed, since their names always reflect the underlying formula.
