Importing ESRI Shapefiles

ESRI Shapefiles are a popular file format in the GIS community. Magic Maps can read (but not write) Shapefiles. To open a Shapefile as a new Magic Maps document:

  1. Unzip the file using Archive Utility, if necessary
  2. Choose File > Open
  3. Select the file ending with .shp and click Open
  4. Choose a column to treat as each feature's primary key and which to treat as each feature's name.
  5. Click Import

To import a Shapefile into an existing Magic Maps document, choose File > Import Shapefile... in place of step 2.
