Importing data

Magic Maps can import points, lines, and polygons from KML or KMZ files created by Google Earth or other programs. If the KML file includes links to external files, those files will be automatically downloaded from the Internet during the import process.

To import data from a KML or KMZ file:

  1. Choose File > Import KML...
  2. Choose your KML or KMZ file and select an appropriate text encoding (if dealing with accented or non-Latin characters)
  3. In the dialog that appears, select the data columns to treat as each feature's name and primary key, or select "Auto-generate" if unsure
  4. Click Import

If a KML file includes more than one type of feature (for example, both points and polygons), Magic Maps will create a separate layer for each feature type.
