About map projections
A map projection is a method of displaying points on a sphere (such as the Earth) on a flat surface (such as your computer screen). Magic Maps supports the following projection methods:
- Albers Equal Area
- Equal Earth
- Equidistant Cylindrical / Plate Carrée
- Gall Stereographic
- Lambert Conformal Conic
- Mercator
- Winkel Tripel
Albers Equal Area displays features of equal geographic area with equal size.
Equal Earth is another equal-area projection, suitable for whole-earth cartography.
Equidistant Cylindrical is a cylindrical projection with equally spaced degrees of latitude.
Gall Stereographic is a cylindrical projection that attempts to reduce distortion.
Lambert Conformal Conic is often used for aeronautical charts.
Mercator distorts areas but is a popular choice for world maps.
Winkel Tripel is another popular choice for world maps.
