About map projection parameters

A map projection can be customized with the following parameters:

The central meridian refers to the line of longitude in the middle of the projection. In general, points close to the central meridian will be projected with less distortion than points farther away.

The standard parallels refer to lines of latitude, but have different meaning based on the map projection. In general, points near or between the standard parallel are projected with less distortion than points farther away.

The Earth model refers to whether the Earth should be approximated as a sphere or ellipsoid during the projection process. The spherical approximation can usually be computed faster, but the ellipsoid approximation is more accurate.
