Importing data
Magic Maps is able to import data and link it to features on an existing map. Magic Maps supports the following file formats:
- Comma-separated variables (CSV, popular in spreadsheets)
- Plain text (.txt) with right-aligned, fixed-width columns
To import a data file into a map layer:
- Ensure that your data file includes a header line with the name of each variable
- Ensure that your data file has a column that matches the target layer's primary key
- Choose File > Import Data Into Layer and choose the desired target layer
- Choose your data file and select an appropriate text encoding (if dealing with accented or non-Latin characters)
- Select your file's primary-key column in the dialog that appears
- Click Import
If the data file includes a "year" column, or if the variable names appear to contain a series of years, Magic Maps will interpret the data as annual data.
